Odin
In early November of 2024, the Barber’s house and garage were full of dogs! Rags To Tags Rescue & Sanctuary was just starting up “officially,” and plans to find more land for the sanctuary were under way. Then the call came in. Another rescuer called with a plea about a dog that was dumped in a neighborhood nearby Kris, along a busy road.
A young lady had found the dog and was in a quandary about what to do. She was living with her parents, and they told her “absolutely not” when it came to holding on to the dog. The neighbor across the street said the dog could stay in their backyard but they didn’t know anything about dogs, and they didn’t want to keep the dog. A bad storm was coming, animal control was not doing intake, and there was nowhere for this sweet, scared dog to go. Kris drove over and picked the dog up and took him to the vet. He was very easily startled, cowering at loud noises, but definitely a very sweet dog.
The young lady that found him named him Odin, so that’s what became his official name. Unfortunately, he was heartworm positive, but otherwise healthy and more than likely no older than 2-3 years old. An appointment was made for his neuter and microchip, and his heartworm treatment began. He was introduced to Fancy to see if he could live in her room with her peacefully. She accepted him and has grown to love him – even when he is being A LOT! Kris describes Odin as a 60lb ping pong ball or maybe a linebacker is better…he has no idea what he is running into, but he’s definitely knocking something over! It’s incredibly hard to get mad at a dog with a big, goofy grin while he wiggles like he’s made of rubber when he sees people he recognizes. He even won over the technicians at the vet! Kris could hear them all talking about him and how cute he was when he went in for his initial exam. Odin LOVES attention!! One of the technicians absolutely fell in love with Odin and the feeling was mutual. She sat on the floor, and he promptly melted into her lap, flipped over for a belly rub and watched her every move while he wagged his tail, wiggling uncontrollably. She always makes sure to come in to visit him if he’s on the vet’s schedule, even if she’s not the technician for that vet. He has that effect on people!
Odin and Fancy are both routine oriented, but Odin also is a helper. He loves having a task and will do that task faithfully, each day if he thinks he is pleasing his humans. Every morning, Kris takes turns with the dogs to go out to the dog run. When it’s Odin and Fancy’s turn, they race out of their room out to the small dog run behind the house, while Kris takes both of their water bowls to clean and fill. When she comes back out to replace the bowls, Odin’s job is to open the doors for Kris – she leaves them ajar so he can bust through like the Kool Aid man (older folks will get that reference!)! He watches for her and comes running if he is out in the yard, once he sees she is holding the bowls. Of course, Kris could do this task on her own, but the joy Odin shows in busting those doors open for her is priceless. He sits patiently once the bowls have been replaced and waits for the “ok” command to go back outside so they can proceed to the dog run. That is his daily routine, and he looks forward to it.
Odin has a tendency to throw himself at people, like he is doing parkour. He will refrain if you see him coming and give him the “off” command, but seeing him coming is the challenge! Kris has said she believes he would really like someone to actually catch him when he throws himself at a person, but that’s like trying to catch a 60lb cinder block without warning! He has no idea he is not a 10lb lapdog jumping into someone’s arms! He is more like the linebacker that believes you have the ball, and he needs tackle! His crazy antics could unintentionally hurt a younger child or an older person unsteady on their feet, without intending to cause harm, so he would have to be in a household with older kids. He is truly a joyful dog that LOVES being around other dogs and people. He hasn’t met any cats yet, but that will be checked in the near future.
If you are interested in meeting Odin, go to the RESOURCES page and apply! If you have met him and would like to foster or adopt him, fill out an application. He is truly a special dog and would love to be part of family that adores him!

odin
Odin is young – maybe 3 years old. He is a tough little dog, but loves with his whole heart! 60lbs of pure joy!!
He greets you with a parkour move like a little linebacker but there is never any animosity. He’d really just like it if people would catch him when he jumps LOL.
He has no issue with other dogs, but they may have issue to his roughhousing. A meet up first would be best. Would he fit into your family?
