Henry
Two dogs were spotted running around a walking trail in mid July 2024 in Katy, TX, approaching folks with wagging tails, hoping someone would help them. They appeared to have been dumped in the area, based on the way they watched each car that drove by, like they were expecting their people to come back and pick them up. That is a sad reality for “dumped” dogs and it’s heartbreaking.
Unfortunately, someone trying to help, picked up only the milk chocolate brown colored dog and left the one with the white face behind. Eventually, he ended up on a nearby patio of a kind gentleman that decided to take him to his work location temporarily (a warehouse in South Houston), until he could figure out what to do with him.
A dog rescuer familiar with the plight of these dogs reached out to Kris. She mentioned that the sweet Pitbull was separated from his brother and now living outside in an empty warehouse lot next to a busy highway. Arrangements were made, and Kris drove to the location to pick up the dog up on the other side of town. A boarding facility close to Kris’s house was contacted and a space reserved for him, along with an appointment made at the vet. The first vet he saw concluded that the extensive hair loss on the top of his head was due to allergies and that medicated shampoo would do the trick. The boarding facility used the shampoo for him but there was no change.
The second vet he saw, disagreed that it was allergies, noting the scar tissue patches on top of his head and spots all over the sides of his face, and did not believe the hair would ever fully come back. Rescuing dogs with questionable pasts is always difficult in that no one will ever know what happened to them to cause injuries like these. Was it nefarious or just an accident? That question is always tough in the rescue community.
He was named “Henry” and once he was safe, he could show his incredibly silly personality. He is a young dog, presumably not more than two years old, with LOADS of energy but also will settle pretty quickly with some snuggles and head scratches. He drove the entire ride back from the warehouse lot laying across the center console with his head on Kris’s shoulder. He is quick to learn new things and eager to please his people. Kris has been working on playing with different toys for him. He likes to chew but also loves to play “shake it out” with knotted ropes. He hasn’t mastered bringing the ball back in the game of fetch, but he definitely has fun chasing it! He goes absolutely crazy for the large 30” herding balls that are more for horses – Henry LOVES to chase those! As with each dog that comes into the Barber’s care, his limits are tested, his likes and dislikes are noted, and the conclusion? He is just a goofy dog looking for his fur-ever family!
The hope for Henry is a home with an energetic family that will give him the attention he deserves, training to best fit the family needs, and lots of treats! He was in boarding for a few months when he was first part of Rags To Tags Rescue & Sanctuary but is now at the Barber’s house as they transition to a larger sanctuary facility in the near future. He would be an amazing companion for a runner, someone that likes to hike or do anything outdoors. Would he fit into your family?

Henry
Henry is 2-3 years old and 50lbs. He is VERY energetic! He loves to run, chase squirrels, push giant inflatible balls around in the dog run & play fetch! He seems to still be in his puppy phase, but absolutely loves people! He is very smart & picks up on new things very quickly. He is potty trained, and manages for long periods between go-outs. Could he be your best friend?
