“Mac”
Reunited August 2024

This very sweet, but scared pup was brought to Kris by one of RTTRS’ board members. She had stopped at Buc-ees on her way home and saw a dog chasing cars and bleeding from his foot. She was unsure what to do with him since she had a non dog friendly dog at home so she called Kris. They decided to get him seen by a vet asap, get him all of the shots necessary to go into boarding if there was not a space at Kris’ house for him, and test him out with Fancy.
He and Fancy tolerated each other but this little guy seemed so out of sorts. Kris said many times that he seemed like he was just desperate to get back to his family. He would look through the fence like he was waiting for them to come pick him up.
After lots of TLC and watching him start to get more comfortable with his surroundings, Kris got a call and text that this sweet dog had a family that was eager to get him back home! They had seen his post on PawBoost and were so excited to get him home! He had been lost during hurricane Beryl in Houston and his family had no idea where to look. As it turns out, when the RTTRS board member picked him up and transported him to Kris’ house, that was about an hour from where he was lost. It complicated the process of finding him. Thankfully, the PawBoost post of Mac was found and the rest is history!
It is so rare to have a happy ending with so many dogs that are dumped in and around the Houston area, it sure is nice to celebrate sweet little Mac’s return to his loving family!

“Gunther”
Adopted January 2023

A very scared, hulky little fellow was dumped on a dead end road where, thankfully, a neighbor of Kris’ reached out for help a week or so before Thanksgiving of 2022. She thought maybe this strong little dog might have been one of the Barber’s rescues. Once it was established that he was dumped, Kris & Hailey jumped in the truck to go pick him up. The neighbor had her little Yorkie barking at him on the other side of a wrought iron gate. This powerful little dog had no reaction at all. He saw Hailey and went right over to her and melted onto her feet. He just wanted to be close to someone and had obviously been around people and other animals. He was dubbed the “glue-stick” while he was living with the Barbers.
The name Gunther (or Gunny) seemed fitting for such a strong dog. His coloring was very unusual and his ears were cropped off very short. His vet indicated that if it was done professionally, that vet should lose his/her license. The looked chopped off, unfortunately. Regardless, he was a very handsome little fellow!
Gunny was with the Barbers for a few months before he found his forever home with one of the surgical technicians at the vet Kris was using. She had been looking for an active friend for her dog, but also a dog that would get along with a very small, blind, french bulldog that she had. Gunther fit into their family quite nicely and aside from colluding with his new brother, to chew remote controls, stuffed animals, paper towels, hats – you name it! They have learned to deal with Gunther and his brother’s antics! He is home for good & loves his new family.

“Max”
Adopted January 2023

This big gentle giant, was spotted by several neighbors on the west side of Houston. His picture was posted on social media for several days. A LOT of neighbors tried to get close to him, but he was terrified. He kept ending up on the same porch or hanging around the lake in the neighborhood. A neighbor reached out to Kris for help. After days of driving to this neighborhood, meeting lots of new people, he was finally corralled into a garage and cornered. It was the summer and very hot but care was taken to give him the time to settle before Kris put the leash over his head. He was such a sweet boy, very gentle, and walked calmly out to Kris’ car and climbed in and fell asleep.
There was a gentleman that Kris had talked to about adopting Boudreaux months prior, but Boudreaux was too much dog for this older man. This dog seemed like a really good match! He had to go to the vet, get his shots and get evaluated before making the final decision. Once pictures were sent to Andy and his daughters (they helping Andy find the right dog), they instantly said YES!
Kris drove Max to his new home with a surly older man that was so excited to have a best friend! Max bonded to him right away and the match was made! The two would get up at the crack of dawn, Andy would have his coffee, Max would look for squirrels and the two would garden for the morning. The entire family fell in love with Max and were so happy their dad had a best friend!
